Living Debt Free By The Word
By Nicholas T. Simonic, CPA, MACC
Part Nine

Now that you have the foundation of Living Debt Free By The Word, I would like to provide an overview of what you have learned. First and foremost, do not rob God. You MUST give your Tithe, Offering and Alms.

Second, take care of your family’s daily needs. As you know, this means food, clothing, shelter and other necessities. Then you can help others.

Then Begin to eliminate the debt in your lives, by using the simple formula that I provided last time. You can get worksheets and my book, “A to Z Of Living Debt Free” while they last, at no charge by calling Sandy at my office at 904-928-1040. As I stated, your emergency fund is built into the plan. So don’t try to save for emergencies first. Also, wait to invest until your debts are eliminated unless your boss matches your retirement plan contributions. (Remember, there is an exception to every rule.)

After your debts are eliminated, you should start saving for short term, medium term, and long term goals. These goals should not be funded by getting back into debt. The objective is to Live Debt Free By The Word.

Finally, while you are walking through the process of eliminating the debt in your life you need to understand one truth. That is, yesterday’s wants have become today’s needs. By that I mean that you folks are usually spending money on items that you don’t really need and creating debt in the process. So as you walk through this plan be careful to ensure that you focus on needs. As God said in His Word, in Philippians 4:19, “and my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches and glory by Christ Jesus.”

You may have said to yourselves throughout this series, “So, who is this guy, Nick Simonic, who is trying to tell me to give tithes, offerings, and alms and how to get out of debt? He doesn’t know how hard it is for me. He is a successful Certified Public Accountant. It is easy for him to sit in his big office building and preach to me. He never had to go through what I am.” Well, it may be good for me to give you a much abbreviated financial testimony, not only so that we can clear the air, but most of all, so God can get the glory for what He has done in our family’s lives.

I was born in a blue collar family. It was so blue that we were blue all of the time. My dad was a truck driver and my mom was a waitress at a diner. We moved every year. We never owned our own home. I spent some of my childhood in an orphanage until my family was reunited by God’s grace. My closest sister died of Leukemia when I was a young boy. My parents divorced when I was sixteen. And I ran the streets.

I was a high school drop out and joined the service during the Viet-Nam war. I was combat wounded and spent one year in a military hospital. THEN GOD!!

I met my wife while in the hospital. Three years after we were married, we gave our hearts to The Lord together one day at a small church in New York City. For the first twenty four years of our marriage Millie would literally cry daily about our financial situation. Why, when we were Christians and started tithing only a few months after our salvation? The answer is simple although it did not seem simple while we were going through it. We always gave back what we were supposed to, to God. However, we were not in stewardship with the rest that God entrusted us with. It was not until I got fed up with debt and sought God’s Word about what our responsibilities were regarding the money God trusted to our care that things started to turn around.

So, what does this tell you? You can learn the hard way by knocking your head against the wall in your finances. OR, you can learn from my mistakes. I always tell clients that the financial lessons in life are less expensive if they learn from the mistakes of others. I would truly encourage you to do that. You have heard or maybe even thought it yourself. “If only I knew then what I know now.” The difference is experience. I encourage you to learn from my mistakes. Call Sandy and get the free information and start changing the course of your financial life TODAY!

Until Next Time…

Beloved I Pray That You Prosper And Be In Health, Even As You Soul Prospers!

Blessings,
Nick
